We thoroughly enjoyed Tuesday’s ACSE ‘Down the pub Seminar” hearing from three inspirational female Structural Engineers; Emma Buis, Associate Engineer at Taylor Thomson Whiting, Aubrey Bullen, Senior Structural Engineer at Robert Bird Group and Siobhan Tapia-Smith, Technical Director at Aurecon Group.
Three extremely successful female Structural Engineers who all spoke honestly and passionately about their career paths as women in what remains a heavily male dominated industry.
From choosing to study engineering through to managing a family and leading some of Sydney’s largest Building Structures projects, the speakers touched on a range of factors around diversity and inclusion within Structural Engineering Consultancies and the Construction Industry in general. There was a lot of positivity from the speakers on the way in which the industry is already addressing diversity, from trialling 5 day working weeks on
construction sites through to flexible working and parental leave as opposed to the old maternity. You can watch the full presentation here.
